The sOccket! Exercise for health and light...

soocket

Four young women who met in a Harvard engineering class came up with the idea to put an induction coil and magnet in a soccer ball. Kicking the ball around for just ten minutes will light a small led lamp for three hours or charge a battery. The invention will hopefully offset the use of kerosene lamps for reading. They are hoping for a buy one in the developed world - donate one to the developing world scheme. The ball donated will be manufactered locally in the country of use.

According to the World Bank Millennium Goals Report, 2006 - 95% of the African people are living off-grid with no access to electricity.

Although the ball is still in the prototype stage the cause has been-

Good News!
State Farm is providing the opportunity for visitors (to a special FB page) to generate and donate over 2,000 sOccket™ balls., visit the Juega e Ilumina tab. One way is to watch and ‘like’ the videos of Futbol Freestylers to add one minute of light to the represented country. Another way is to play the featured game, Play & Illuminate, (to play HIT THE BOTTOM of the SOCCER BALL) where you can choose the country you wish to send sOccket™ energy balls and then play to donate. There is also a chance to download a brand new iPhone app, Kick4ACause, which is a virtual soccer game you can play to help donate sOcckets. Every 15 minutes of play collected will result in one sOccket™ ball donation, so State Farm will donate more sOccket™ balls when consumers play more.
