A Sampling of Environmental Charges Against Koch:

September 2000, a federal grand jury in Corpus Christi, Texas returned a 97-count indictment against Koch Industries Inc., Koch Petroleum Group for violating federal clean air and hazardous waste laws, due to the release of at least 91 metric tons of uncontrolled, untreated carcinogenic benzene. In April 2001, the company reached a $20 million settlement in exchange for admitting to covering up environmental violations at its refinery in Corpus Christi, Texas. www.justice.gov

March 2000, Koch petroleum which operates a refinery in Rosemount, Minn., was sentenced to pay a $6 million criminal fine and pay an additional $2 million in remediation costs. This is the largest federal environmental fine ever paid in Minnesota. Koch admitted that it negligently discharged 200,000 - 600,000 gallons of aviation fuel into a wetland and an adjoining waterway. In addition, their way of recovering the fuel (a year and a half later) destroyed a portion of the surrounding ecosystem and wildlife habitat. In a separate offense, Koch dumped a million gallons of wastewater with high ammonia content on the ground between November 1996 and March 1997 and also increased its flow of wastewater into the Mississippi River on weekends when no one monitored discharges. These actions allowed Koch to circumvent the weekly monitoring and reporting requirements of its wastewater discharge permit. The case was investigated by EPA's Criminal Investigation Division, the FBI and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and was prosecuted by the U. S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota. www.ehso.com

Koch's Sterling butane pipeline had a leak in Lively, Texas, on August 24, 1996. Two teenagers on the way to report the leak drove into the unseen butane cloud, and were killed when the gas exploded and burned. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded that severe external pipeline corrosion was the cause of the failure. www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

In 1999
, a federal jury found that Koch Industries had stolen oil from government and American Indian lands and had lied about its purchases more than 24,000 times. In May 2001, Koch Industries paid $25 million to the federal government to settle the federal lawsuit that found the company had improperly taken more oil than it had paid for from federal and Indian land. www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

In January 2000, Koch Pipeline, agreed to a $35 million settlement with the U.S. Justice Department and the State of Texas as fines for the firm's three hundred oil spills (300 million gallons) in Texas and five other states going back to 1990. www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch_Industries

In 2006, Flint Hill Resources was fined nearly $16,000 by the EPA for 10 separate violations of the Clean Air Act at its Alaska oil refinery facilities, and required to spend another $60,000 on safety equipment needed to help prevent future violations. yosemite.epa.gov

Climate Change Denial:

A March 2010 Greenpeace report shows that Koch Industry foundations have contributed (2005-2008) nearly $25 million to organizations that oppose clean energy and climate policy. That does not include oil and gas lobbying of $37.9 million. For more info on Koch Industries' funding of Climate Denial Groups -- See GreenPeace's report "Koch Industries Funding the Climate Denial Machine" www.greenpeace.org

In the August, 2010 New York Magazine article 'Covert Operations,' oil tycoon David Koch was quoted as saying, global warming will be a good thing for the planet and will help "support enormously more people because a far greater land area will be available to produce food." www.newyorker.com

Revenue:

Koch Industries currently brings in $100 billion in revenue annually.
Each brother is personally worth $21.5 billion. Together 43 billion.*
Koch Industries spent a total of $37.9 million on oil and gas lobbying
from January 2006 to December 2009. www.sourcewatch.org

Voting:

Since the Citizen's United decision, corporations can now attempt to influence their employees' votes. The Koch Brothers jumped on that band wagon right away and mailed out lists of Koch supported candidates to their 50,000 employees during the last election. The Mercatus Center is a conservative Think Tank at George Mason University’s Arlington campus. It is a university-based research center that makes its research findings available to the media and public policy makers. According to GreenPeace the Mercatus Center has received over 10 million dollars worth of funding from the Koch Brothers. Mercatus also fights environmental regulation, opposes clean energy legislation and lobbys to prevent curbs on industrial pollution. www.greenpeace.org  mercatus.org

i want romney to win. you know why? because he will pull this country down the drain, and hopefully all the remaining businesses in these united states. thomas jefferson spoke the truth and it still rings in my mind- if you let big banks control your monetary system, you can say goodbye to your rights! Republicans and Democrats, they are all the same. This country has nothing to be proud of except mind-boggling arrogance and corporate greed! Let us take America back from these evil-reincarnates!

The Koch brothers are trying anything to send Romney into the White House. For the past four years, they have fed lies to the American public, put restraining forces into the Congress and tried to sabotage policies of the administration.

If you do not want to be an accomplice, vote for Obama. He may not have done a great job at the economy (nobody could, given the dire state of what it was four years ago), he has integrity and a good heart, which the other side doesn't have.

Do not vote for short-term gains, we all have to pay a much heavier price later and this will affect not only you and I, but also our next generations.

Reply #602 on : Sun October 21, 2012, 23:02:20
List of Geo-Pac products contained 3 items I've purchased in the past, but will never buy again. There are many far superior products on the market. Angel Soft feels like the old Sears catalog used in out houses years ago. There's nothing great about Sparkle paper towels, either. After trying them once, I thought store brands were better. Don't see anything I'll be missing.

Greed
Reply #600 on : Sun October 21, 2012, 11:26:56
I think the Koch Brothers are some of the most immoral people in the world. The problem, there so many more of the same type. Romney and this type of greed are hoping to run our country. If so, they will turn America into a country of demoralized extreme poor who are at the mercy of the very rich. I told my family long ago that Reagan's policies were the beginning of a country of have and have not (masters and slaves). I believe this more than ever before. I am retired and pay taxes. I know many people that worked many years and lost everything due to the wealth of those who think they are our saviors. Don't preach religious belief when greed and resentment toward the less fortunate are your platform. Koch Brothers and others of your greedy group are everything a FREE world despises.

These Brothers and their associates have too much power. Their money has helped paralyze congress, suppress voter rights, infiltrate US Supreme court decisions and engage corporate legislation which has subjected the intent of the electorate null and void.

The Koch Brothers and their corporate accomplices should be restricted to the business of doing business, which is supplying goods and services, and let the legislators do their duty of serving the people and the Country.

Truth about the Koch's
Reply #596 on : Thu October 18, 2012, 08:23:59
This is for the clever folks who want to buy Koch's products to support them. David Koch ran for VP on the Libertarian ticket in 1980, far-right of Reagan. The Party platform was to ABOLISH Social Security, welfare, the CIA, the FBI, and the public school system.

Did you know the Koch's have donated millions to get a Republican in the White House and EVEN MORE to elect Romney?

Did you know the Koch money backs candidates like Boehner, Ryan, and Cantor?

Did you know R&R wanting to privatize Social Security will ABOLISH it, as we know it? Even though, today it is solvent until 2037?

Social Security was meant to be a guaranteed retirement income for seniors. Let's keep it that way, and keep the Koch's out of the White House (via Romney).

Consumers who are not klan members should be outraged, and demonstrate that outrage by not purchasing any product manufactured by the companies with which the infamous two are affilliated.

You might want to know that communities that have Koch plants in them have a 40% cancer rate due to the poisons they put in the air and water.

And you know, there are a lot of products that are far better than Koch Products and the company doesn't pollute and kill people. Isn't free enterprise lovely!!

It is hard to believe that this is 2012, this sounds like the 1950's, these people are so full of hate that it makes me shudder at the thought of them getting what they want, to run the government their way...what a sad commentary on these "unted states" of america. they have no thought for those who have not had the privledges that they have gotten on the backs of the very people that they are so willing to criticize.
But one thing that I know that they don't that is God is still in charge, the real God not them, the god that they have created.

The earned income tax credit (EITC) and the child tax credit (CTC) previously supported by Democrats and Republicans are now under attack from Koch funded Heritage Foundation. Ronald Reagan called it "the best anti-poverty, the best pro-family, the best job creation measure to come out of Congress.” You can bet Romney will agree with Koch Bros and not Reagan.

Wake up you ignorant Koch supporters! They are not only destroying our democracy - but they are one of the biggest "welfare kings" in our country! All while fighting any government that works for the general welfare of "we the people".

Pretty scary when you read the list of products we buy from these charcters that hide in the shadows of their SUPER PAC backing the REPUGNICAN PRETENDER running for president "LITTLE MITTY ROMNEY." The clueless poor little rich boy who hides his money in the Caymans, pays less taxes % wise than most if not all "HARD WORKING MIDDLE CALSS WORKERS" do. Take this list of products to the stoes with you and BOYCOTT them. Buy anything but what they own and produce. The only thing they worship is money so that is the only way to hurt them. Shut off the $$$$$.

This kind of "money" is the root of the worst kind of evil--------selfishness disguising itself as enterprise---FASCISM masquarading as community involvement. These were the underpinnings that sparked the French Revolution.

The meek shall inherit the earth, so obviously the Koch brothers and their rabid followers are disqualified. Their goal is total corporate dictatorship, and we have to stop them at all costs.

For most people this is a battle of ideologies, i.e. if you make a ton of money and vote Republican you MUST be for America. If you're suffering with medical conditions, low pay (or no pay), increasing taxes, rising prices, etc. and you just want a fair shake you MUST be some sort of Commie! Alas, in fact it is just the opposite. There is nothing more Fascist than removing from the public their protection under the law as pertains to healthcare, working conditions, price-fixing, unethical financial dealings, etc. You can call the head of the country whatever you want but if the government devolves into just a bunch of Yes-Men bowing to the power of the sacred American DOLLAR than you end up with a despot.

" It is NECESSARY that laws should be passed to prohibit the use of CORPORATE FUNDS directly or indirectly for political purposes;---it is still more--NECESSARY that such LAWS should be thoroughly enforced." Theodore Roosevelt
