The Solar Roadways project is working to pave roads with solar panels that you can drive on. Their long range goal is to cover all concrete and asphalt surfaces that are exposed to the sun with Solar Road Panels. They plan to start off small: driveways, bike paths, patios, sidewalks, parking lots, playgrounds, etc. This is where they hope to learn lessons and perfect the system. Once the lessons have been learned and the bugs have all been resolved, they plan to move out onto public roads.
A Geminoid or twin-robot is designed to resemble a living person. It is controlled by an operator who through the use of advanced software can transfer facial movements and speech to the robot. For many years, robot technology has primarily been associated with factories and warehouses, but the days of thinking about robots as just 'tools' are over...

The final competition is a four hour endurance race -- with many a pit stop to change drivers.
Greenpower, has been promoting practical engineering for the past 12 years across the UK. Greenpower Education Trust focuses on teamwork, linking industry with educational institutions and involving the community. The Trust works with over 500 schools across the UK and runs 27 annual events. www.greenpower.co.uk
Cornwall College's massive Greenpower 2011 event held at Newquay Cornwall Airport, joined this year by Cornwall College STEM's Solar Car Challenge.
Greenpower Education Trust has support from a number of partners who assist both the charity and the schools involved. For example title partners such as Siemens, Ford or Cornwall College support with funding, some of which is directed towards match funded bursaries to encourage more schools to get involved. The companies also help local schools by providing information and engineering expertise in the topic of electric cars. www.greenpower.co.uk
