Geothermal Cos of Interest:
The Geysers, comprising 30 square miles, is the largest complex of geothermal power plants in the world, located 72 miles north of San Francisco, the Geysers satisfies nearly 60 percent of the average electricity demand in the North Coast region from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border.
Chena Hot Springs, a 400kW low temperature geothermal power plant, designed and built by United Technologies Corporation, is the first geothermal power plant in Alaska. Chena Hot Spring's vision is to become a self-sufficient community in terms of energy, food, heating and fuel use to the greatest extent possible.
Chevron is the largest producer of geothermal energy in the world, accounting for more than half of all privately developed geothermal power.
Ormat Technologies, a Nevada based company founded in 1965. It owns and operates geothermal power plants, selling electricity in the United States, Guatemala, Kenya, Nicaragua, and the Philippines.They also provide products and services to other geothermal power generators.
West Indies Power. St Kitts project-estimates that it will Produce 4X its Energy Needs with Geothermal Energy on the Island Nation.
AltaRock Energy- Engineered Geothermal Systems (EGS) projects produce electricity using heat extracted with engineered fluid-flow paths in hot rocks. These pathways are developed by stimulating them with cold water injected into a well at high pressure and utilizing a variety of proprietary techniques developed by AltaRock which are the subject of its patent portfolio. Corporate headquarters in Sausalito, CA and its technology development office in Seattle, WA.
Calpine Corporation was originally founded in 1984 (they went through bankruptcy and successfully emerged on Jan. 31, 2008). This Houston, Texas based company provides electricity in the US and Canada through the ownership and operation of its own power generation plants. Their 50+ plants are either geothermal or natural gas-combined cycle.
Nevada Geothermal Power explores for and develops projects in the United States to provide electric power from high temperature geothermal. They own a 100% leasehold interest in 5 projects: Blue Mountain, Pumpernickel, Black Warrior and Edna Mountain in Nevada and the Crump Geyser Project in southern Oregon.
Raser Technologies, a Utah based company founded in 2003, is an environmental energy technology company, which develops geothermal power. The company has a portfolio of geothermal interests in Utah, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Indonesia which generates seven megawatts of power.  Has licensed heat transfer technology, plus Raser’s Symetron technology which improves the torque density and efficiency of electric motors and drive systems used in electric and hybrid-electric vehicle powertrains and industrial applications.
Sierra Geothermal Power is a Vancouver-based renewable energy company focused on the exploration and development of clean, sustainable geothermal power.They have investments in 15 geothermal projects located in Nevada and California. Over 444.7 km2 (109,927 acres) of geothermal properties in Nevada, California and British Columbia, SGP's projects have a combined total estimated capacity of 400MW.
US Geothermal, a Boise, Idaho based company founded in 2002, is involved in the development of geothermal energy power plants in the Raft River area of Idaho, the Neal Hot Springs area located in eastern Oregon, and San Emidio, Nevada.

U.S. Energy Information Administration. Geothermal Heat Pump Manufacturing Activities. In 2008, total shipments of geothermal heat pumps surged more than 40 percent to 121,243 units while capacity shipped rose almost 43 percent.
"Countries with the greatest increase in installed capacity (MW) between 2005 and 2010 were:
(1) US - 530 MW, (2) Indonesia - 400 MW, (3) Iceland - 373 MW,
(4) New Zealand - 193 MW, and (5) Turkey 0 62 MW.

In terms of percentage increase the top five countries were:
(1) Germany - 2,774%, (2) Papua-New Guinea - 833%, (3) Australia - 633%,
(4) Turkey - 308%, and (5) Iceland - 184%."

Sandia National Laboratory's primary focus has been on the development of improved drilling and completion technologies such as diagnostics while drilling, high-temperature electronics, advanced drill bit technologies, wellbore integrity technologies to reduce and mitigate problems associated with loss of circulation and advanced drilling concepts to provide economical access to deeper and hotter resources in the future.
Stanford Geothermal Program's objective is the development of reservoir engineering techniques to allow for the production of the nation's geothermal resources in the most efficient manner possible. The primary focus in the immediate future will be the investigation of reinjection into vapor-dominated reservoirs such as The Geysers.
Great Basin Center for Geothermal Energy,  University of Nevada, Reno.  The Center specializes in collecting and synthesizing data, and using Geographic Information System (GIS) to produce favorability maps of high-temperature geothermal systems in the Great Basin
