A powerful one-minute video, narrated by Pierce Brosnan, about the desperate plight of the last 284 belugas of Alaska’s Cook Inlet.

The explosive noise of airguns used to explore for oil and gas can deafen, injure and even kill whales.

Apache Alaska Corporationis is preparing to launch an acoustic onslaught in the belugas’ only home and the Obama Administration has just given Apache the green light to proceed. Apache is using airguns that produce some of the loudest underwater sounds known to humankind. Impacts from these surveys can disrupt, injure and even kill marine mammals, which depend on sound to survive.

These sonic blasts will repeat every 10 to 12 seconds -- and could last 3 to 5 years! The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) predicts that the airguns will harm at least 30 belugas during the first year of Apache’s operations. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has issued a permit authorizing the Apache Alaska Corporation to "take" 30 beluga whales during the first year of its oil and gas exploration in Cook Inlet, Alaska.*

It was only four years ago that the Obama Administration put these belugas on the endangered species list and then designated 3,000 square miles of Cook Inlet as “critical habitat.”

Tell the Obama Administration to stop the Apache Alaska Corporation from launching a deafening airgun attack that could help push these white whales over the brink of extinction. *www.SaveBelugas.org
